About Puget Sound Orthopaedics

Established in 1990 as Lakewood Orthopaedic Surgeons, Puget Sound Orthopaedics serves the Puget Sound region with comprehensive orthopedic care in musculoskeletal disorders. The team comprises nine board certified surgeons with sub-specialties ranging from shoulder, upper and lower extremity, and sports medicine to spinal and podiatric care. They work with our five certified physician’s assistants and a 55-member support staff to ensure a high level of contact and ongoing patient education. We work together with the common goal of delivering expert, individualized, and compassionate attention to every patient.
In addition to offices and an onsite surgery center, a number of independent orthopedic services are available at the Lakewood site offering MRIs, orthotics fitting, physical and occupational therapy.

History Of Practice

In 1990, Dr. Teeny joined Dr. Hirz and established Lakewood Orthopaedic Surgeons in an effort to meet the orthopedic needs of the growing Lakewood community. Dr. Arroyo was recruited in 1997. The practice continued to grow with the addition of Dr. Thomas in 2001, Dr. Coray in 2004 and Dr. Bede in 2005. The group expanded their expertise with the addition of podiatrist Dr. Laghaian in 2006.

In 2004, the group built a state-of-the-art facility in Lakewood to serve the South Sound area. This building houses all orthopedic needs from imaging and onsite outpatient surgery to physical therapy and custom orthotics.

As of September 1, 2008 Lakewood Orthopaedic Surgeons became Puget Sound Orthopaedics (PSO), one of the largest private orthopedic practices in the area. They also added two spine surgeons: Dr. John Blair and Dr. Michael Martin. Both of these board-certified, fellowship-trained surgeons have practiced locally for many years and will help PSO to provide comprehensive patient care in Lakewood and Tacoma.
