Dr. Ghidella is a graduate of West Point and the Georgetown University School of Medicine. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at the University of Rochester, New York, and Hand Surgery Fellowship at Walter Reed and Union Memorial Hospital. Dr. Ghidella has served in the military as an Orthopaedic and Hand Surgeon with the last eight years of his career holding positions of Chief of Hand Surgery and Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at Madigan Army Medical Center. He retired from the Army as a Colonel and a combat veteran after 21 years of service in 2010 to pursue civilian practice.
Dr. Ghidella is a longstanding and full active member of the professional societies of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.
Specializing in the surgical management of the upper extremity and general orthopaedics, he brings experience rarely found outside military practice to Tacoma, Lakewood, and Gig Harbor. Dr Ghidella is not only well versed in management of common sports, work-related, arthritic, and traumatic injuries and ailments, he has a wealth of experience in managing severe injuries and conditions resulting from combat as well as children with birth defects.
Dr. Ghidella is trained and experienced in arthroscopy, micro-surgery, and utilizes proven and current techniques in the operating room.
“Once management short of surgery has failed, I try to speed recovery and improve function surgically with a combination of traditional techniques that have proven reliable and the latest techniques that depend on current technology. My goal is to restore your function and get you back into life as quickly as possible by solving your orthopaedic problem, big or small. My favorite cases, though, would be the complex reconstructions of children with hand problems since birth.”
Dr. Ghidella hails from New England, however considers the South Sound home. He is an avid skier and enjoys water sports. His passion is coaching his kids in youth wrestling, football, baseball, and lacrosse.
