Hip Osteoarthritis

GENERAL INFORMATION

Osteoarthritis is more likely to occur in weight bearing joints of the body, such as the hip. Constant wear and tear on the ‘ball and socket’ joint will reduce the cartilage on the ‘ball’ of the femur making movement very painful as bone scrapes bone. Another cause for hip osteoarthritis is a reduced synovial lining which is a slippery lining that aids in motion. There are a variety of other causes but some factors will contribute more to the development of the disease.
