Provider Spotlight: Dr. John M. Blair, Orthopaedic Surgeon

We at Proliance Puget Sound Orthopaedics believe that the community should know who is providing care and learn about the medical team’s background, skill set, and experience. For this Provider Spotlight, meet John M. Blair, MD. Dr. Blair is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in operations of the spine. As a spine specialist, he is able to perform spinal surgeries such as cervical and lumbar laminectomy, and epidural injections, and diagnose various conditions of the spine.

Spinal Specialties

Dr. Blair attended medical school at the University of Chicago Medicine in Chicago, IL before pursuing his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center San Diego, CA. After completing his medical education, he pursued spine surgery, receiving fellowship training in the spine and scoliosis at John H. Moe Spine Fellowship at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN. Due to his training, Dr. Blair’s expertise is in the treatment of degenerative conditions of the cervical and lumbar spine, focusing on outpatient minimally invasive spinal surgery.

As part of his commitment to bettering his own medical knowledge and advancing orthopedic spine treatments, Dr. Blair participates in lectures on new innovations in spinal care. He holds professional memberships in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society, Pierce County Medical Society, and the Puget Sound Spine Society, which he attends quarterly meetings. Dr. Blair also attends annual medical mission trips with other experienced medical professionals to exchange methods and experiences.

With his extensive education and fellowship training, Dr. Blair can diagnose and treat a wide range of spinal disorders, such as sacroiliac joint issues, pinched nerves, back injuries, and neck sprains.

Hobbies & Volunteering 

When not providing care or performing spine surgeries for his patients, Dr. Blair spends time with his family, pursuing photography and outdoor activities, and, as an Eagle Scout himself, volunteering with the local Boy Scout troops.
