Sports Medicine & Achilles Tendinitis Resulting From Overuse
Achilles tendinitis can result from overuse. If overuse is the culprit for your pain, tendon thickening and swelling may occur. You and your doctor will determine which treatment options fit your needs. Most often, our doctors recommend non-surgical treatments including rest, icing, physical therapy, injections, and shoe inserts. Most patients experience resolution of pain within 12 weeks. You and your sports medicine doctor will remain in contact during your treatment to monitor progress and the resolution of your pain.
Sports Medicine & Achilles Tendon Degeneration
The Achilles tendon can deteriorate over time. This can be a result of continued overuse and dysfunction. It may also be tied to genetics as well as other factors outside of your control. When possible, our doctors work with you to employ a therapeutic approach. Therapies we use may include rest, anti-inflammatory medications, physical therapy, and cortisone injections. If improvement is not noticeable within 6 months, your doctor may recommend surgery.
